In know that this is a weird one but what I am doing here is more like a public journal than a blog. This is a thought that occured to me that I found interesting. You may not and that’s okay. Most of my thoughts that seem out of place and strange I have discovered that they end up being more foundational later in some other thought that might have more mainstream resonance. But as I stated on the home page, I am not editing or proofreading my work so as a reader, you are experiencing my thoughts as they are occuring. Proceed at your own risk😬🤪😁
Why might heterosexual men find it sexy for two women to be together but the reverse is not true?
I believe it starts with the idea of “morphic resonance“. Most of us grow up with the view that our memories are stored in our minds and our minds reside in our brains. Everything that we have ever done is stored in our brain somewhere. The recollection of some bit of data or an image or an event is the firing of our synapses and a file being retrieved somewhere in the fleshy folds or our brains. Western science has performed tests and experiments in the hopes of finding where these files are stored which would then prove this to be the case and more importantly prove useful in dealing with injuries and diseases that affect memory loss. But there are other theories that are not in line with our western beliefs.
The eastern idea that is far older is that there is a universal collective mind where all memories are stored. Kinda like an external hardrive. When we want to recall something we tap into the collective mind and retrieve our files. Although we do this using our brain and our conscious mind, it is not “our” brain that is storing this information. Our brain is just a processor and the memory centers that light up in tests are just the areas of our brain that access this external mind. This collective mind is then influenced and shaped by all that is stored into it so our memories cannot be relied upon as being exact and unchanged from when they were first stored there. Every time we retrieve a file from there, there is the possibility that foreign artifacts may be attached to it, which then shape our own thoughts. This is the idea of “morphic resonance”. CAUTION: I HAVE JUST SERIOUSLY OVERSIMPLIFIED A FAR DEEPER AND MORE SCIENTIFIC CONCEPT.
The oldest profession, prostitution was primarily a female business. The idea of male prostitutes, not that it didn’t exist, but it was extremely rare, and where it did exist was in a much different context. So what traditionally comes to mind when someone uses the word prostitute is a female sex worker. We also conjure up an understanding that she is traditionally satisfying the sexual desires of men in exchange for money. Given that prostitutes in this traditional sense were all women, it stands to reason that if a female wanted to pay for sex with another female, there were probably women that would perform it for them since it was a business transaction. Perhaps it may have even been less risky and the sex worker may have a better understanding of how to perform whats needed than anyone else. Being the oldest profession, and the collective mind being objective in what is stored there, stores these memories just the same as it might store a memory of grandpa teaching his granddaughter how to fish. The emotional context of how that event took place is also stored. So since male prostitutes hardly existed, then what did gay men do? For them to engage in sex there was a lot more risk and fear and shame associated with two men having sex with each other and all of that is stored into the collective mind.
So it could be that morphic resonance is dictating to us more than our own values and beliefs, what we should find acceptable and appealing and what we should reject as unnatural and repulsive.
